Product Description
ALICE IN WONDERLAND: MASTERPIECE EDITION

Amazon.com
Imaginatively rendered but slightly chilly, this 1951 Disney adaptation of the Lewis Carroll classic is also appropriately surreal. Alice (voiced by Kathryn Beaumont) has all the anticipated experiences: shrinking and growing, meeting the White Rabbit, having tea with the Mad Hatter, etc. Characterization is very strong, and the Disney team worked hard to bring screen personality to Carroll's eccentric creations. For a Disney film, however, it seems more the self-satisfied sum of its inventiveness than a truly engaging experience. --Tom Keogh

5 out of 5 stars FINALLY !!!!   September 6, 2010
Savage Wolf
I know that this book is alot off the story of Alice through the looking Glass but it is a DISNEY classic and after all how many books get turned into one of them? I have been in the U.K. now for 2 &1/2 years now and every year they have sales on ALL the Disney films BUT this 1!!!! THIS happens to be a great classic and if ya have any imagination at all then ya knwo it has nothing to do with drugs or poisen or B.S. as that but it simply has to do with a bored lil girl who falls asleep and dreams. Thanks to Disney for keeping the dream alive with this classic and to Amazon. COM for making it possible for me to FINALLY get !!! HAPPY UN- ANNIVERSARY!!! VERY HAPPY AMERICAN IN ENGLAND!!!

1 out of 5 stars not like the original   August 18, 2010

This is a Disney failure, not like the original version I had hoped to find. It features an older Alice with a different story line, although many scenes do follow the book. We watched it once and then donated it to a local library. I still want to find an original classic version as I remember it to have been.

This item arrived in a timely fashion. I am very pleased with this product and would buy again from this seller. My son was so happy to receive this as a gift.

3 out of 5 stars A different take on the movie   August 16, 2010
Don't tread on me (North Carolina, USA)
I don't remember if I saw this movie as a small child or not. My family and I rented and bought Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland (should have been called Return to Wonderland). Since we could not remember if any of us had seen this version, we decided to rent it. I have to say - I was a bit disappointed in it. Yes, I was tainted in looking for things like the Mad Hatter as compared to Johnny Depp's Mad Hatter. Putting all that aside, I still found the movie to wandering all over the place which was somewhat hard to follow a good portion of the time. I did like the Chesshire cat from both versions although they were quite different.

Before anybody berates or flames my review, I was watching this for a frame of reference as it relates to Tim burton's film. My best advice is - if you watch Tim Burton's first , don't watch this. If you see this first, I don't think you lose anything by watching Tim Burton's afterwards. However, I don't recommend the same audience between the two movies. Tim Burton's follow-up is defintely for an older crowd.
